Education World® Presents A Special Technology In The Classroom Issue

This week is an exciting week for Education World! We've been chosen to organize the Tech Café, a special hands-on technology workshop for principals at the National Association of Secondary School Principals convention in New Orleans! In recognition of this honor, this week we've put together a very special "technology in the classroom" issue of Education World!

Among the stories you'll read:

  • Women of Accomplishment: An Internet Scavenger Hunt
Writer Cara Bafile has created a special question-a-day calendar that will take students to a different site every day in search of interesting facts about some of the most fascinating and important women in history! Neglected for years, the historical contributions of women are celebrated in this special Education World LESSON PLANNING story!

  • Desktop Videoconferencing: Novelty or Legitimate Teaching Tool?
Education World welcomes its newest writer, Hazel Jobe. Hazel has traveled the country presenting sessions on integrating technology in the classroom. She's also a Fellow of the prestigious Franklin Institute. Ed World is lucky to have Hazel on board! This week, Hazel debuts with "videoconferencing 101," an intro to the technology and its uses. Where can you get the technology? How can you use it in the classroom? Enjoy how-tos and tips from a videoconferencing pro.

  • Virtual High Schools: The High Schools of the Future?
Join a class composed of students from different states and countries chatting and learning together yet never leaving their homes! Virtual student lounges, virtual yearbooks, and virtual graduations -- is this the high school of the future?

  • Debate Rages Over 'Digital Divide'
This week, writer Glori Chaika takes a look at the haves and the have-nots. Where does your school stand? Are your students technology savvy? Or are they being left behind because your school hasn't kept pace with technology? Explore the "digital divide"!

  • Integrating the Internet Just Got Easier!
Among the many resources provided by Teacher Created Materials is a new series of activity books that busy teachers can use to integrate technology into their curriculum. Activity books are available for primary, intermediate, and "challenging" (middle school) levels. Check out some of the latest resources from TCM and order your free catalog today!

  • And, finally, this week Education World also offers the latest story in its Principal Files series! What draws some educators to become school principals? What keeps them on the job? That's what Education World asked our Principal Files principals this month. Perhaps some of what they have to say in this week's story -- -If You Had It to Do Over Again, Would You Still Be a Principal? -- will inspire you as you go about your daily routine!

Here's to a great convention!
